Do you hate memorizing formulas for the ACT or SAT? Then read this NOW!
So you’re planning on taking the ACT in September are you? Well, you’ve come to the right place at the right time.
But, before I tell you our secret weapon for conquering the Math section, let me tell what you won’t find anywhere else concerning ACT prep resources.
Do a simple Google search for “what’s on the ACT math section” and you get a plethora of meaningless statistics. Numerous sites simply tell you the percentages of each subject area (i.e. 23% will be Pre-Algebra and Intermediate Algebra, 30% will be coordinate geometry…)
but NONE of them tell you what concepts you need to know!
We’ve researched scores of ACT texts and recently bought stock in Red Bull because of our sizable contribution to the company in order to create an easy, customizable outline of every section on the ACT. Below you’ll find just a snippet of our outline:
Basic Operations – you need to know:
- Common Conversions
- how to deal with percents in terms of rates, proportions, taxes/discounts, and averages
- how to dissect rates and proportions word problems
- how to compare percents and ratios.
BOOM! That’s just one segment of 8 sections on our ACT Math outline alone. We also have the English, Reading, and Science section outlined as well.
But you didn’t come here for English and reading – you came here for Math. So here is the big secret. This secret will enable you to work quicker, more accurately, and more efficiently. It could boost your score substantially if you implement it correctly. The big secret that only a fraction of high school students know about is:
YOU CAN USE CALCULATOR PROGRAMS ON THE ACT
What does this do exactly?
- It allows you to work through simple problems like lightning (you’ll never have to “solve for x” again)
- It lets you factor polynomials with 100% accuracy
- It stores dozens of formulas so you don’t have to spend hours memorizing
- It gives you more time to work on the more difficult problems and have time to check your answers
- It makes your tutoring more effective, by focusing on the “big picture” rather than remembering steps and computations
Thankfully, at Launch Academy, all our students get these score-busting programs FREE of charge. We install them for you in seconds and you can then use them for both the ACT and any other math classes you may be enrolled in.
Thomas Edison said that “Knowledge without application is useless” and we firmly believe that. The programs that we use are the A+ Algebra II and A+ Geometry and, if you’re tech savvy enough, you can download them yourself right here. It gives a full list of the program’s capabilities as well.
Now, we know that other tutoring companies have started to catch on to this highly-effective way of approaching the ACT math section but most of them simply give you the program and then don’t tell you how to use them. We provide both the tools and the training and it’s making a difference.
“The ACT Prep Program helped our daughter with all the areas she needed. We were thrilled when she got a 30 on the ACT and love the fact that she has options when going to college.” – Susan P, Mother of High School Senior
Now what about the SAT? We’ve talked a lot about the ACT but can this translate to the SAT? Absolutely. And even more.
The SAT allows you a wider variety of calculators to use, including the beast known as the TI-89 Titanium (even the name is legendary). If you’d like to read our whole article about that calculator, just click here.
The SAT math section differs a bit from the ACT, however. It doesn’t have any trigonometry and the concepts tested are simpler. However, before you go signing up for the SAT, bear in mind that while the questions test simpler concepts, they wrap them up in word problems, which is one of the most confusing types of problem for students.
Taking this into account, our SAT Prep program tackles each of our outlined concepts. By teaching students how to decode the questions and then use their calculator to crush the computation steps, we’ve seen a huge boost in both scores and student self-esteem. Some of the concepts that our SAT prep program covers are:
- The hidden meaning behind math terms
- How to approach problems that have more than one variable
- How to tackle the problems that you completely forget how to do
- When to guess and when to leave your question blank (it makes a difference on the SAT)
- How to check your answers on open-response questions
Again, work smarter, not harder. If you’re unsure of how to install calculator programs or how to know which ones are safe, simply give us a call at 918-853-5243 or shoot us an email right here. We’ll be happy to answer your questions!
If you haven’t signed up for the either the ACT or SAT yet, deadlines are approaching. Click one of the links below to get your students signed up for it:
